Amitabh Kant says every direct job gives birth to five indirect jobs via tourism
New Delhi: At the book launch of ‘No Dream is Too Big: Memoirs of a Civil Servant’ by Dr. GG Saxena, IAS (retd.); organized by Delhi Administration Officers’ Academic Forum, Social Buzz and Prabhat Prakashan on 24th November 2023 at India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi; Mr.. Amitabh Kant, G -20 Sherpa, was quoted saying that tourism is the biggest job creator and tourism is the answer to growth in job creation. The panel was graced by eminent personalities including Mr. PK Tripathi, Lt. General Bhopinder Singh, Dr. SY Quraishi, Mr. Navin Berry, and Mr. K Mahesh. “Mr. Saxena is one of the finest officers that Delhi Administration has produced. He is the man who lives, eats, and breathes tourism.”, said Mr. Kant while reviewing the book.
To the question of how tourism is helping the country despite having considerably low proportion in GDP, Mr. Navin Berry, Editor of Destination India, said, ” Latest events such as the world cup is inviting a lot of tourists into the country. We need a fresh contribution in terms of the statistical survey”. Dr. SY Quraishi, Former Chief Election Officer of India, said, “ Life is all about perception, not reality. This is captured well in the book.” While talking about the concept of a team, Mr. P K Tripathi, Former Chief Secretary of Delhi, said, “ In Delhi, if you are ignorant, it is a great bliss. The State government must be given respect, our tenure was a cakewalk. You would be surprised to know that more than a decade ago, Delhi had the best time in terms of Governance when two different political parties were in power in centre and state! Nowadays, it has become very difficult.”
Upon being asked about tourism in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry, Lt. General Bhopinder Singh, Ex – LG Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry, said, “Dr. Saxena was really helpful. After the tsunami relief, tourism was my target and Dr. Saxena was helpful throughout. I wish him success on his book”.
